Namibia, Rwanda in entertaining draw

The Brave Warriors will have to win the encounter against Malawi on Saturday or jeopardise their 2014 World Cup CAF Group F campaign.
These are the sentiments of Coach Bernard Kaanjuka who stress that the Brave Warriors match on Saturday at 17h00, Independence Stadium against the Flames of Malawi is very crucial for the future of Namibia in the race for Brazil 2014.
“We have to win this one, no draws, or defeat will be accepted. We have to map out our own destiny. We don’t need favours from anyone in this Group and we don’t know and don’t want to know what happens between Nigeria and Kenya in the other group match. So we have to do our job and do it well. That is the deal at the moment” says Kaanjuka.
The team had their first training session this morning at DTS in Windhoek and will have their afternoon session at 17h00 at the same venue and for the next two days and on Thursday they will move over to the Independence Stadium at the same times as well.
“The session this morning was very light. You don’t want to push the players much, they just played over the weekend and it is very important to take it easy at times”, explains Kaanjuka.
The team will however be without the services of Blue Waters enterprising winger Hendrick Somaeb, who is ruled out with an injury sustained over Waters goalless draw with Tigers on Saturday in the MTC Premiership.
“Hendrick is out and we will have to make a decision whether to call up someone else or just do with what we have. Otherwise, Ephraim Tjihonge too is missing and I have no idea when he is coming and the Thailand pair of Tangeni Shipahu and Lazarus Kaimbi arrives today and Manfred (Starke) arrives tomorrow. So far it looks good for the technical team to have all players called up around” Kaanjuka says.
The match tickets are available on Computicket and NFA Soccer House for N$ 30 each and fans are urged to get them as soon as possible and come out in numbers to support the Brave Warriors.

NFA Cup - Stars, Chiefs and Gunners reach Bidvest Namibia Cup semis
A first half brace from African Stars striker Edwin Korukuve saw African Stars match onto the semi-finals of the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup, with the Rundu-pair of United Stars and Rundu Chiefs and Mighty Gunners also reaching the last four.
The quarterfinals of the Bidvest Namibia Cup was played on Saturday and the Rundu Stadium , in all-Northern Stream First Division clash, Rundu's United Stars took on Otjiwarongo African Lions and it was the former who went onto reach the semi-finals with narrow 1-0 victory over Lions at the packed Stadium.
In the second and final match at the venue, Orlando Pirates took on Rundu Chiefs, the sides meeting for the second time in seven days, and this time unlike in the Premiership one-all draw, Chiefs built on their halftime 1-0 lead to win 2-0 against the Buccaneers and book their place in the last-four teams in the prestigious Bidvest Namibia Cup.
At the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Blue Waters and Mighty Gunners faced off in the first of the double-header and after a fairly contested affair, it was Gunners' substitute Richard Oarum who scored from the penalty later on and Gunners managed to hold onto the 1-0 victory to see them through. Oarum substitutes displays were enough to win him the Man of the Match Award which comes with N$ 2000 of which half goes to a Charity of the player's choice.
African Stars then took to the pitch against Southern Stream Frist Division side Hotspurs and after well-balanced opening 15 minutes, African Stars turned up the gear and after Spurs Keeper Fredericks' butter hands drop a cross into the box, Edwin Korukuve was first to pounce home and send the 'Stalile' faithful's into raptures.
Moments later just before the break, Korukuve who was proving to a throne in the flesh of the Spurs backline, was again first to reach a well-placed ball into the area from the left, placing it into near post past the hapless Fredericks in the Spurs goal. Korukuve won the Man of the Match award. And that is how it stayed for the remainder of the game, as Spurs regrouped well in the second half and kept it clean at the back whilst probing for a come-back goal which was not to be, Stars wining 1-0.
The NFA and Bidvest Namibia on 21 January 2013 announced a three-year partnership deal for the NFA Cup that will see N$ 2.5 Million for each season of which N$ 500 000 will go to the winner. The last time the NFA Cup was played was in 2011 with Eleven Arrows crowned champions.

Ricardo Mannetti, who was thrown into the deep end as the Brave Warriors coach following the resignation of Roger Palmgren, remained upbeat following Namibia’s training session on Monday morning. Namibia take on the African champions Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday night, with Mannetti’s appointment only confirmedby the NFA on Sunday evening. He said Palmgren’s resignation came as a shock, but remained focussed on the job at hand.
“I worked with Roger for two weeks and the knowledge he has about football is enormous and I learned a lot. So for me as well it was a shock that he resigned but as a Namibian fan and a Namibian coach I think that we should not be in shock. We should not let what happened with Roger become a stumbling block for us to give a good performance against Nigeria on Wednesday evening,” he said. “That has been my plea to the national team, that we must take hands and that we must forget about Roger. He is in the past now and he’s not going to come back - he has resigned, he has moved on. Now we have to look at what we have, and what players we have. We have to roll up our sleeves, and give it our all,” he added.
Mannetti called on the Namibian nation to support the team on Wednesday evening.
“We need all the Namibian fans to get behind this team and forget about the fact that Roger is not there. This is their team and it is our team, it is our pride and joy, and we have to treat it as such. So I just have this plea to the entire nation that they must come and support their team, because this team needs their support,” he said. Mannetti was adamant that they would give Nigeria a tough fight.
“It will be very tough against Nigeria, they are after all the African champions. We will respect them but we are not going to roll over and let them come and dictate matters in Windhoek. Our boys are up for a fight and we will be warriors for the entire 90 minutes. The Brave Warriors’ injury list however continued to grow as Oliver Risser and Manfred Starke both seem unlikely to play. The recalled Risser injured his knee during training while Starke has a heavy bout of flu.
The Brave Warriors are already without the services of foreign-based professionals Ronald Ketjijere, Henrico Botes, Heini Isaacks and Rudolf Bester who are all injured. Furthermore, captain Da Costa Angula will also miss the match after picking up two yellow cards in previous World Cup qualifying matches. But despite the setbacks, Mannetti vowed that his team would make their country proud.
“The only thing that I can predict is that these boys will not roll over and be taken for a ride on this pitch on Wednesday evening. These guys will fight for the entire 90 minutes and they will make every Namibian fan very proud of being a Namibian,” he said.
